The Judging Panel

The GBEAs take great care about the makeup of our independent judging panel. Unlike most other awards we don't adopt a one size fits all approach and expect a small group of judges to be able to assess a broad range of entries for which they may have little or no knowledge. Instead, we have built a large panel of experts from which we can select a bespoke judging team that has an in depth knowledge of the sector to which the individual entries relate.

The panel is regularly evolving as we invite senior representatives from GBEA winning organisations to join. This unique approach ensures that every entry is given the utmost consideration by people highly qualified to pass judgement.

Professor Steve Dixon, DLitt, FRSA
Professor Steve Dixon is a Pro Vice-Chancellor at Brunel University, West London, with responsibility for Strategy and Business Development. His work includes establishing business collaborations and R & D projects with industry, and he has developed of a number of strategic partnerships with major corporations.
Steve is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, Manufacturing and Commerce, and prior to his career in academia he worked in a range of roles within the creative industries including directing films, television, theatre and opera. He is an internationally renowned researcher in the use of computer technologies within the creative arts, and is Director of Brunel's Collaborative Research Network in Creative Industries. His advisory positions include work for the Arts and Humanities Research Council, Skillset, the Korean Advanced Institute of Science and Technology, and the Arts Council of England.

Charles Clark, Rosslyn Analytics
Charles co-founded Rosslyn Analytics and Ockham Capital and, prior to this was an Executive Director of the asset management division of Panmure Gordon, managing £1.3bn globally.
He has extensive experience of working with fast growing companies and the capital markets, whilst also currently sitting on the board of the highly successful SeaDragon Offshore Ltd, where he is responsible for corporate governance. Charles served with the British Army during Desert Storm and holds an MBA from City University Business School, is a Fellow of the Securities Institute and is an Accredited Associate of the Institute for Independent Business.

Karen Jones, NHS County Durham
Karen spent eight years in an academic research environment exploring the philosophy and practice of nursing, shared decision making with patients and the impact of evidence based practice on clinical audit of chronic disease management in primary care.
She obtained a masters in research methods and then moved back into the NHS as a senior public health specialist at a strategic level (health authority) and then transferred into a primary care trust. Karen now sits within the corporate improvement team where she takes a lead on coaching, culture and corporate projects within public health.

Andrew Areoff, Areoff
Andrew is founder and director of Areoff, a multi-award winning insurance and financial services website design specialist. What sets them apart is that rare ability to design sites that are search engine friendly, which in turn maximises online visibility and credibility but without sacrificing functionality and usability.
Their overriding aim is to is to make their clients more effective online and ultimately to transform their website into a key revenue stream, sales tool or reputation building communication platform. Andrew is regularly invited to join the judging panels of high profile awards.
